The Solstice in Alaska is an amazing time. The weather in Anchorage cleared up and finally got nice over the last two days, and what an amazing two evenings it has been!
Last night we hiked up toward the top of Flat Top after work. Everyone in Anchorage had the same idea, it would seem.
The early evening light was amazing. Not a cloud in the sky. Wonderful views of the city. A little hazy. I wish I could have stayed up there until the sun went down, but the sun wasn’t going down until around 11:30.
Solstice in Alaska is a BIG deal. There are festivals, celebrations, foot races, baseball games, concerts and other events that don’t even begin until the evening hours. Last night the Fairbanks Goldpanner began their baseball game in the late hours of the night and played the entire game without artificial light. Tomorrow night in Fairbanks the Midnight Sun Run will take place. It’s a 10K race that starts at 10:00 P.M.
Here are a few photos from my amazing solstice night last night.
