Week 15: August 28, 2012 – September 3, 2012
This was a great summer for travel for me. Some it was work related, like my trip to Washington DC and some it was for pleasure like my earlier trip to Santa Barbara and Palm Springs. This most recent trip to Palm Springs was to be a long Labor Day weekend before going to the Western Arts Alliance conference in Denver.
Before getting out of town, I spent Tuesday in Anchorage. This shot is of the parking garage near my office. I was struck with the lines and then the car interrupting the flow. I had recently read an article about thinking small and finding details in things before trying to capture the larger structure. I liked the idea and got this shot.
When I am in Palm Springs, I take lots of pictures of the beautiful golf course where we stay. I’ve taken A LOT of those pictures. So this trip I concentrated on trying to get different shots. This was of a sunset (obviously) that night.
I took two shots on Thursday. We went for coffee at our favorite place called Koffi. Outside the shop is a courtyard with lots of trees and flowers. After my caffeine fill-up, I wandered around the area shooting. I found the cactus shot off in a corner. The light was very overcast, so there weren’t a lot of harsh shadows.
As we were enjoying the morning, I would notice a humming bird flitting around. It would go from tree to tree and flower to flower. Occasionally, he would sit and rest. I made it my mission to get a shot of the sitting humming bird. I think I did a pretty good job.
Friday was massage day at the Parker Meridian. If you’ve never been to the grounds of the Parker Meridian in Palm Springs, you are missing out. They are BEAUTIFUL. When you arrive, you are met with a very cool white wall.
As I was trying to figure out what I wanted to shoot that day, I felt rushed, and got the shot of the smoking lips too. I think I like the white wall better. This hasn’t been converted to Black and White. It just is.
Saturday morning, we got up very early and drove to Joshua Tree National Park for a sunrise adventure. This was taken that morning.
As I have been working on this 365 Photo Project, I have made myself experience more things that I wouldn’t ordinarily experience. My morning adventure to the Lincoln Memorial, the Kite Surfing, and so much more. I’m glad that I chose to commit myself to a photo a day for a year.
One morning, I read an article about using the zoom feature of a camera lens to make artistic shots. My boring old palm trees took on a new feeling when I experimented with the technique.
The final shot of the week was on our last evening in Palm Springs. We had been out at the pool all day, and I wasn’t feeling particularly creative. But I love this shot! I have many photos of this spot with people having fun. I think that might make a fine post for a day.
