September 18-24, 2012
Autumn is really coming in Alaska, whether we like it or not. Week 18 saw the equinox. I felt like I needed to work to capture shots while the sun is still shining. Because in a few weeks, there won’t be many day light hours.
The first shot of the week was take during a fierce windstorm. Our power was out for a few hours that night, and I still wanted to get some pictures. I got the tripod out and took some long exposures. This was my favorite of the night. You can really get a sense of how the wind was blowing.
On Wednesday, I was working, working, working. I had a board meeting, and after the meeting was the first chance to get some shots. It was after 8 by the time I got to my camera. We had more rain, and I was taken with the wet and the street lamps. This was taken from the dash of my car.
Without really trying , this week’s unofficial theme became long exposures. This whale tail is in the lobby of a hotel, and I liked the feel of the long exposure with the water.
Some of my most favorite shots were taken this week. The Friday image of the stream behind out house is one of my most favorite so far. I like the long exposure and the fall colors in the water. It also garnered some of the most comments on Facebook.
Saturday, the sun came out for a bit. To the south was the sun, to the north were stormy clouds. I chose both these images for the day.
Sunday kept me close to home, and Sunday is a cooking day often. This was my mom’s Chicken Caccitore recipe.
Finally, for the week, on Monday we had some friends to dinner, and Evan made salsa or pico de gallo.
