November 13-19, 2012
This was the halfway week, Week 26 of the 365 Photo Project. For 26 weeks, half a year, I have taken a photo each day. I didn’t end up marking this week with any particular fanfare. As I write this almost a month later, I can reflect back and think how my camera has been my constant companion.
Taking photos for half a year for a day is a fun project. Sure at times it is a little creatively exhausting, but overall, I am getting what I want out of it. I feel like I’ve become a better photographer. And I’ve learned a lot through reading about photography. This has been good for me to do.
The first shot of the week was taken at work the day the power was out. It wasn’t a city-wide outage, just confined to the part of town where our offices are. I liked this light as Jason looks out to the light from his dark office.
When the power goes out, you are effectively done in this day and age that relies on e-mail and phones. We effectively closed the office most of the day.
On Wednesday, I got to see one of my heroes perform. Steve Martin was live in concert with the Steep Canyon Rangers. I was also happy because we had two sold out houses. I love a sold out house. I get to meet quite a few celebrities in my work. You learn quickly which ones to chat up and which ones to leave alone. Steve Martin seemed to be one of the latter. He was a wonderfully nice guy to meet. You just sensed you shouldn’t gush over him. I really wanted a picture with him, but I didn’t sense it was the thing to ask. So I opted to get a shot with his promo poster. This was a self-portrait “walk-around” (as my dad calls them) times shot.
The concert was AMAZING. Steve Martin can play banjo, and all the music that night was his. And the Steep Canyon Rangers were also amazing. It was one of the best concerts I have ever seen. And Steve Martin is still amazingly funny. I did gush at him at one point and told him he was a hero of mine. Hope we can get you back to Alaska, Steve.
As the holidays were coming on, Evan and I were trying to finish our Thank You notes from our wedding. This was one of those nights.
We still have a few more to go.
Friday of that week saw us at the store for our first foray into grocery shopping for Thanksgiving.
Two Turkeys, yes. We barbecue one and roast one. It’s so good. Our Thanksgiving menu is insanely good.
This is the finished shot from the home improvement from last week. We really like the color.
Getting shots is getting harder because it is colder and darker. I do live in Alaska. So this is no surprise.
This time of year, I love the light in the birch trees. The sun is hanging low on the horizon making a near constant golden light. I got this shot from my living room window.
We did other home improvement over the weekend and switched out some fixtures. Evan was installing a new dimmer for the main entry way light.
I’m happy I’ve made it this far. I never imagined doing anything like this, but I am so happy I’ve done this 365 Photo Project.
